“Ashtanga” means eight steps and “yoga” means path. The eight steps on the path of yoga include: how we treat ourselves, how we treat others, cleansing of the energetic channels in the body using specific postures, controlling the breath, controlling our senses, learning single pointed concentration, practicing meditation and contemplation. The ancient texts focused on the path of yoga as a way to realize your true nature by looking inward. In keeping with this tradition, my focus is to emphasize the meditative aspect of yoga. I understand that students today come to yoga class to deal with the myriad of stresses in our fast-paced culture and are often looking for a quick fix. So I incorporate meditation and breathing techniques into my classes to help calm their mind while allowing them to achieve the physical benefits of toning and strengthening from the postures. Regardless of your motivation for coming to yoga, if you practice under my guidance with regularity, you will notice profound changes. Try yoga today and see how you can benefit from the wisdom of the ancient teachings! Group class schedules click here. |
