Ashtanga yoga was derived from ancient Sanskrit texts and is designed to align, strengthen, tone and cleanse your body, mind and senses – an efficient workout touching the body, mind and soul.

“Ashtanga” means eight steps and “yoga” means path. The eight steps on the path of yoga include: how we treat ourselves, how we treat others, cleansing of the energetic channels in the body using specific postures, controlling the breath, controlling our senses, learning single pointed concentration, practicing meditation and contemplation.

While the ancient texts focused on the path of yoga as a way to realize one’s true nature, students today largely use Ashtanga to deal with the myriad of stresses of our fast-paced culture. Meditation and breathing techniques are used to calm the mind and gain mental clarity; yoga postures are used to tone and strengthen the body and lose weight.
